When the Ford Zephyr was first brought to us, the first thing we needed to do was to strip the car down. This resulted in all of the interior being removed, body work sanded, and windows removed.
With the Zephyr being over 60 years old some of the body work needed time and attention. We then straightened any panels that had been through a few bumps. Any rust and rot that needed out attention was also then removed and repaired giving the Zephyr the essential requirements to survive another 60 years on the road.
We also sealed the undercarriage of the car and repaired the suspension, ensuring that the level of safety was fit for today’s requirements.
Having stripped out the interior we then sent the interior components to an upholster who would then resurrect the interior as if it was just leaving Ford’s factory.
Whilst the components were being resurrected, we then focused on the Zephyr’s floorpan as this contained some elements of rust. We then removed and repaired all rust sections of the floorpan ensuring it was strong and healthy for the interior.
With the body working being completely stripped, straightened and sealed, it was then time to bring back the original colour of the 1954 Zephyr. With the car having a two-toned colour palette we started by spraying the lighter Ivory shade followed by the rich Cambridge green.
Whilst respraying the car we also completely resprayed the alloys, matching the Ivory of the main section.
After the respray was complete, it was time to assemble the Zephyr. During the reassembling we also completed a full re-wire to ensure all electrics were in tip-top working order. The window winding mechanisms were also repaired allowing for all windows to be easily accessed and used.
Overall the Ford Zephyr was given a new lease of life. From the classic bench style interior to the iconic white-wall tyres, we at L.S Restorations are proud to re-establish the Zephyr back to its original self.
